During the pandemic, many Londoners opted to leave the city, but still live somewhere within easy access. It allowed many people to have the best of both worlds: commute to the office, and also work from home.

As both rent and house prices continue to rise in the capital, many more people may well consider moving to one of the surrounding counties. Surrey is usually an option for Londoners. It's got easy access into Central London, and picturesque areas of natural beauty.

Dorking, Guildford, and Reigate are all popular options in the county. One commuter town in Surrey may have been branded 'unfashionable', but it's got a lot to offer and is rapidly becoming a popular destination for Londoners looking to move out the capital.

Not the prettiest High Street you've ever seen but Redhill is still one of the most attractive spots just outside the capital

Redhill has often been named one of the best places for commuters to live. In the 2020 commuting guide by estate agent Yopa it was rated as London's second best commuter town, only being beaten by St Albans in Hertfordshire.

According to Rightmove, house prices in Redhill have an overall average of £415,000. Compare that to the overall average house price in London, which is approximately £668,000. Houses prices in Redhill are a little over £250,000 cheaper than in London.

And even just down the road from Redhill in Reigate, house prices are closer to what you'll find in London. The average for Reigate was £648,000 over the last year. Redhill has excellent transport links into Central London. Southern, Thameslink and Great Western Railway serve the town's station with connections to London Victoria and London Bridge.

It takes around 31 minutes from London Bridge and 39 minutes from London Victoria. In the other direction, Redhill is not far from the beach, as Brighton is around 40 minutes away.

Redhill town centre is set to have new shops and restaurants following some investment

The town is around three miles from the M25 and M23, and you can get to Gatwick Airport in seven minutes. It also boasts excellent schools, shops and is not far from the beautiful Surrey Hills. Twenty minutes drive from the town is the beautiful Surrey Hills, with miles of land and woodland to enjoy.

St Bede's School in Redhill is a popular secondary school rated "outstanding" by Ofsted, which is the body that inspects schools. The Belfry shopping centre is home to well-known brands like M&S, H&M and Waterstones, and the high street has pubs that are loved by locals.

A new development, called Marketfield Way, is being built in the town. It'll bring a new cinema, and bowling alley, a Tesco, loads of new restaurants and shops, and homes.

Redhill may not be the prettiest town in Surrey, but it certainly has a lot to offer. And, it has easy access to shops and restaurants in nearby town Reigate, while being in easy access to both London and Brighton.
