A seaside village close by to London is home to beautiful beach walks. However, the gorgeous spot could be underwater in just 30 years.

About two hours away from the capital, this beloved seaside destination sits calmly in West Sussex. East Wittering is a stunning large village with numerous beaches around.

Although it's so loved by locals and tourists alike, it's possible the area could vanish underwater within the next 30 years. Climate scientists have repeatedly warned that global warming may cause much of our towns, beaches and coastline to disappear.

East wittering beach

East Wittering is a large coastal village in Chichester, surrounded by beautiful beaches. The East Wittering beach itself varies from being gloriously sandy at low tide to being pebbly at high tide and makes for a lovely walk in the sun.

However, according to a flood map, East Wittering, as well as its neighbour West Wittering, could be in danger. Scientists have said ice sheets from the West Antarctic and Greenland may become part of the ocean if all the nations on Earth fail to achieve net zero emissions by 2060. Therefore, beautiful villages like East Wittering would suffer from the drastic consequences of rising sea levels.

East Wittering is an ideal place to stay for exploring the West Sussex coastal area. Nearby, Bracklesham Bay is well-known for offering various water sport activities as well as being a famed spot for fossil finding.

The village is also perfect for visiting the popular, and busier, West Wittering with a vast sandy beach loved by families. You can walk along the beach from East Wittering, including footpaths through fields, to West Wittering for a lovely breath of fresh air.

Full English at Drifters

It's no trip to the seaside without fish and chips and one of the most popular places to eat in East Wittering serves them right next to the beach. Drifters is a lovely family-run restaurant serving up the likes of tapas dishes, Full English breakfasts and burgers.
