Assembly constituency no.57 Kurud (कुरुद in Hindi), is an Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) seat in the Central region and Dhamtari district, of the state of Chhattisgarh, which is in the Central region of India (Bharat). Kurud is part of the 9. Mahasamund (General) Lok Sabha (Parliamentary) constituency. This constituency can be categorised as: General; Semi-Urban constituency.

DEMOGRAPHIC PROFILE

Kurud Assembly constituency has an estimated Scheduled Caste population of 9.21% and an estimated Scheduled Tribe population of 9.08%, according to the report of the Delimitation Commission of 2008. The estimated literacy level of the district in which this constituency falls in is 78.36%, according the Census of India, 2011.

In the 2023 Chhattisgarh Assembly elections, there were a total of 2,08,488 eligible electors in the constituency, of which 1,04,392 were male and 1,04,094 female and 2 registered voters were of the third gender.

The electorate sex ratio in Kurud in 2023 was 997 female voters for every 1,000 male voters.

In the 2018 Assembly polls, there were a total of 1,94,239 eligible electors, of which 97,335 were male, 96,903 female and 158 electors of the third gender.

PAST RESULTS

In the 2018 Chhattisgarh Assembly elections, Ajay Chandrakar of BJP won in this seat defeating Neelam Chandrakar of IND by a margin of 12,317 which was 7.14% of the total votes cast for the seat. BJP had a vote share of 42.27% in 2018 in this seat.

In 2013, Ajay Chandrakar of BJP emerged victorious in this seat beating Lekhram Sahu of INC by a margin of 27,177 votes which was 17.91% of the total votes polled in the constituency. BJP had a vote share of 54.82% in the seat.

In the 2008 elections, Lekhram Sahu of INC won this seat beating Ajay Chandrakar (Dala) of BJP by a margin of 6,205 votes which was 4.59% of the total votes polled in the constituency. BJP had a vote share of 47.58% in the seat.

The geographic coordinates of Kurud is: 20°53’20.4″N 81°42’46.1″E. Kurud shares its borders with five other Assembly constituencies in the state of Chhattisgarh. Assembly constituency no.57. Kurud comprises of the following areas of Dhamtari district in the Central region of Chhattisgarh: I Kurud Tehsil (Part) – (i) Kurud R I Circle, Kurud (Nagar Panchayat), (ii) Magarload R I Circle (Part) includes Megha PC, Kareli PC, Chandna PC, Bhendri PC & Kundel PC.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 687 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Kurud is: 20°53’20.4″N 81°42’46.1″E.
