For this Nostalgia edition we will be taking you all the way back to the year 1926.

We are almost 100 years on from this time and things are a whole lot different in Cumbria and the rest of the world.

Just like today however there was an awful lot happening 1926 was the year that Winnie-the-Pooh was published by the author A. A. Milne and the Ford Motor Company announced the creation of a 40-hour work week for factory workers.

It was also the same year that Gertrude "Trudy" Ederle became the first woman to swim the English Channel and a general strike in England began in support of the coal miners strike.

But what was happening here in Cumbria? Here at the News & Star we've searched far back in our archives to find some of the most fascinating photos from this year.

We hope that you enjoy this trip back in time just as much as we have.

In the first picture we can see Princess Mary at the opening of a hospital in Cumbria in 1926 and in the second we can see the Moresby RUFC team in Whitehaven during the 1926/27 season.

The third photo shows Workington mayor Alfred Baines and it the fourth picture is the Heather Bosom parade at Common Riding.

One interesting picture shows Pica Football Club. The photo commemorates the occasion when Pica Athletic Football Club knocked out Maryport in the final round of the Derwent Valley League Cup. The following year the league terminated leaving Pica Athletic the undefeated champions.

We can also see the Carlisle Establishment examine the scene of battle between police and strikers in the 1926 General Strike.

The final pictures shows a fancy dress parade at the new pavilion at the Old Town Bowling club and and a Hospital Parade from that year.
