Larry D’ Dodson is a multi-gold and platinum selling, singer, songwriter, producer , and author who for than 47 years has been the lead singer of one of music's most influential funk and R&B bands the Bar-Kays. With a career that has rewarded him with 20 top ten singles, 15 top ten albums, 5 gold albums and 1 platinum album from the 30 albums that he has recorded with the Bar-Kays. Having been inducted into the R&B hall of fame , the Memphis music hall of fame, having a music note on Beale street in Memphis, having a street re-named in his honor in Memphis , having been awarded an honorary doctorate from the HBCU college , Lemoyne Owen college in Memphis ,TN as well as an honorary doctorate from the Sacramento theological seminary and bible college in Sacramento California . Pieces of his stage garments on exhibit in The Stax museum in Memphis ,TN, the Smithsonian Institute, Nashville ,TN and in museums all over the world. Larry has surely left his legacy in the music industry. And thru all of this he has still found time to give back to the community by supporting HBCU colleges, Through the Bar-Kays scholarship fund and thru the Bar-Kays foundation ,and thru the newly formed Dodson foundation whose mission statement is simply to help those who cannot help themselves. Now after 5 decades as the lead singer of the Bar-Kays, Larry has embarked on a solo career, traveling and performing all over the world now as Larry D’ (the original lead singer of the Bar-Kays ), while recording on his on record label music moves records.
