Palhaça (Oliveira do Bairro) » Canal de São Roque (Aveiro)

Grande Rota da Ria de Aveiro - Percurso Verde / Walking

The stage that connects Palhaça to the city of Aveiro reveals one of the phenomena that in a certain way characterizes this region, the communion in the same area of several distinct cultures and ways of life. There is space for eucalyptus production forests, for vast corn and horticultural fields, for industrial areas of great regional relevance, or, with its back to the land, for the cultures of the Ria de Aveiro and the Atlantic. The stage starts by visiting the Fonte Bebe e Vai-te Park, still at Palhaça. It then crosses extensive eucalyptus forests and, after passing under the A17, in the landscape the cultivated fields become predominant, which continuously succeed each other, just like the villages. It goes through the suburban area of Aveiro, following the green riverbed of Vilar just before entering the city center, by the Jerónimo Pereira Campos Factory, one of its great industrial and patrimonial landmarks. Soon after you will find the exuberant building of the old Railway Station of Aveiro and a mural by Vhils, one of the great names of Portuguese contemporary art. It continues along Dr. Lourenço Peixinho Avenue, embellished by many facades that display the style of Art Nouveau, and then entering the alleyways in the heart of the city until you see the Ria again, in the square of the iconic Fish Market.
