LaDonna Hall, elected as Salley's mayor in 2019, was reelected by a single vote Tuesday.

Two elections in an Aiken County town were decided by a single vote.

Salley Mayor LaDonna Hall was reelected and Ronne Hall won election to the town council by one vote, according to results made official Thursday morning by the Aiken County election board.

"I can continue to work towards moving Salley forward," LaDonna Hall said Thursday morning.

Ronnie Hall said an inch is as good as mile.

Unofficial results posted Tuesday evening showed LaDonna Hall winning by two votes, 81-79, and Ronnie Hall tied with Rosalyn Hicks at 77 votes.

"You have to move forward and you have to keep the faith," LaDonna Hall said.

But the Aiken County election board voted to accept three of five provisional ballots cast in both races.

The three accepted ballots were from Jerry and Patti Griswold and a voter who changed her name but didn't update her voter registration card, Aiken County election board Chairman Andrew Marine said.

Marine added the board didn't accept provisional ballots cast by a person outside the town limits and a person who registered to vote the day after the election.

With the provisional ballots included, the results showed LaDonna Hall leading Sturkie by a single vote, 82-81, and Ronnie Hall leading Hicks, 79-78.

The board voted to accept these results.

South Carolina law requires a recount if election results are decided by less than 1 percent of the total votes cast which both elections were.

Specifically, there were 163 votes cast in the mayor's race. And one vote is 0.61 percent of the total votes cast. There were 157 votes cast in the Seat 2 election. And one vote is 0.63 percent of the votes cast.

As such, the board held a recount.

Once the recount was done, the results still showed LaDonna Hall leading 82-81, and Ronnie Hall leading 79-78, Marine said. The board then voted to certify the recount, he added.

Also, in Salley, Leah Shackleford received 84 votes to defeat Cassandra Hicks-Brown in the Seat 4 election.

In nearby Wagener, Nyia Adams (62 votes) and George Smith (64 votes) won seats on the town council over Joann Johnson (22 votes) and Karen Williams (11 votes). There were also 28 write-in votes in the town council election.

Several uncontested seats were also decided Tuesday.

James McIntosh and Karen Jones were reelected to the Burnettown Town Council.

Three Republicans, Councilman Carl Culpepper III, James Anderson and Ashley Morgan, were elected in New Ellenton.

Charles Pedro McCormick and Councilman Jerry Martin won reelection in Monetta.

And in Perry, Councilmembers Marquel Blizzard and Jenell Gilbert won reelection.
