• Lizzo’s latest body-positive Instagram reminds us that weight fluctuation and body changes are normal.
  • Her message is crucial to remember as weight loss-related New Year’s resolutions continue rolling in.
  • “I gained weight 💅🏾 I look TF GOODT 😍,” she captioned the post.

As a new year sets in, resolutions often bring up talk of dieting and weight loss. And although it's perfectly fine to set healthy goals for yourself and your body, Lizzo is here to remind us—once again—that weight fluctuation is normal, and that bodies are worth celebrating in every state—not just when they've dropped a few pounds.

On January 2, the pop star posted a video in which she twirled and danced wearing a brown bodysuit and shimmering tights, captioning it: “I gained weight 💅🏾 I look TF GOODT😍.”

Of course, her body-positive message resonated with many, who flocked to the comments to lift her up and thank her for spreading self-love. “Ugh this just made me feel better I love you!” one person commented. “You look bomb,” another wrote. “Honestly as a person who was just feeling a little down today because of realizing the weight I gained, this is so empowering,” someone else added.

This isn't the first time the “Truth Hurts” singer has been unapologetically honest about how her body shifts and changes—she shares a lot of powerful videos on the topic in an effort to achieve not just body positivity, but body neutrality.

“I think it’s lazy for me to just say I'm body positive at this point,” she told Vogue in 2020.“It’s easy. I would like to be body-normative. I want to normalize my body.” She added that she wants the body positive movement to be more inclusive of people who look like her: “Girls with back fat, girls with bellies that hang, girls with thighs that aren’t separated, that overlap. Girls with stretch marks. You know, girls who are in the 18-plus club.”

In March 2021, she shared a TikTok that documented how her body had changed since 2018, writing: “It’s ok to change. I love every stage my body fluctuates to. The feats your body pulls off every day to function is iconic honestly 💁🏾‍♀️ love u.”

And in April 2021, she posted an unedited nude selfie to continue the conversation. “Normally I would fix my belly and smooth my skin,” she wrote. “But baby I wanted show u how I do it au natural.”

We love Lizzo’s emphasis on body neutrality. We can’t wait to see what empowering posts she shares in 2022!
