The Swingin' Medallions will entertain in June

The Swingin' Medallions, still among the most popular party bands to play across the South, will once again perform at the Jasper County Farmers' Market Friday, June 5.

Made famous by their No. 1 hit single, "Double Shot of My Baby's Love," the Swingin' Medallions, are South Carolina bred. Their timeless high-octane style has been energizing crowds at colleges, festivals, reunions and beach venues almost continuously since the 1960s. This is their seventh year performing at a summer-opening concert in Ridgeland.

"We all look forward to having the Swingin' Medallions come to Ridgeland," said Kendall Malphrus, executive director of the sponsoring Jasper County Chamber of Commerce. "They appeal to a really broad age group from boomers to teenagers. They get their audiences amped up like no other group. They are true entertainers. No true classic rock and roll fan will want to miss this concert!"

Bruce Springsteen, who has appeared on stage with The Swingin' Medallions calls their "Double Shot" rendition "the greatest fraternity rock song of all time."

Concertgoers can expect to hear "Double Shot," as well as their hit singles "Hey Hey Baby" and "She Drives Me Out of My Mind" as well as favorites like "Wooly Bully" and "Barefootin and other great hits from that era."

Malphrus said gates at the Jasper County Farmers' Market will open at 7 p.m. with the concert starting at 8 p.m. Advance admission is $15. Tickets purchased at the gate on concert night will be $20.

Advance tickets may be purchased by calling the Chamber of Commerce in Ridgeland (843-726-8126). A portion of each ticket will be donated to The United Way of the Lowcountry.

Rain or shine

Food and beverages will be available for purchase at the concert. There will be "drinking wristbands" for persons 21 and older available for purchase at $10 each. Special VIP "up close" tables are available for advance purchase for $250. The VIP Packages includes tickets for 10 people (but doesn't include drinking wristbands, which must be purchased separately).

Attendees are asked to bring their own lawn chairs. The event will be held rain or shine and coolers are not permitted.

Jasper County Farmers' Market is located on the south side of Ridgeland which can be accessed from Interstate I-95 at Exits 18 or 21.
