Hearing the truth sucks!

It often hurts. But without it, growth is difficult if not downright impossible.

I have learnt a few things about the truth recently. And whilst these are not new to any of us who have been on the receiving end of a dose of truth, it has made me see the truth in a more enlightened way I guess. The bummer is, it doesn’t really make learning the lessons any easier. I guess that’s one of the good things about the truth.

Mini-Revelations were…

# 1 – How the truth is delivered usually determines how accepted it is. A blunt email is rarely accepted in the same manner as a face to face meeting.

# 2 – Who delivers the truth also makes a huge difference. Get the truth from someone you really admire and respect and you suck it in like a delicious smoothie. Get the truth from someone who rubs you the wrong way and you likely repel the truth, even it contains good advice you can grow from. Get it from your wife and… (C’mon, I’m not stupid – no comment).

The truth may hurt, but it may heal as well. Regardless of who delivers it or how it is delivered, look to see if there is any truth to it. Then pull the band aid off and get on with life.
