Investors to rescue the CBR tannery in La Rioja

A possible sale of the establishment would ensure productive and employment continuity.

According to union sources, due to the prolonged conflict, with temporary closures, discontinued productions, suspension of personnel, etc., interested parties have appeared for the acquisition of the CBR tannery in Nonogasta (La Rioja), which until now is in the hands of a Brazilian group.

Those who showed interest in the purchase are SOCMA Argentina from the Macri family and the Chinese company CHERRY.

The ex YOMA tannery has 800 workers and of its total production, a volume greater than 90% was destined for foreign sales. However, the establishment remains inactive, according to its directors, due to the impossibility of exporting due to the pandemic.

For the union sector, the possible sale would open a possibility to normalize the activity and the employment source, and for the state and national government, a relief in the face of repeated requests for financial help from the current owners.
