RB Chauncey Bowens Flips Commitment from Florida to Georgia

Kirby Smart strikes again on the recruiting trail.

Former Florida Gators running back pledge Chauncey Bowens has flipped his commitment to Georgia, he announced on Saturday.

Bowens, who originally committed to the Gators on Sept. 18, has been heavily pursued by the Bulldogs since they extended him an offer on Dec. 7.

During his official visit to Athens, Ga. this weekend, despite previously professing his loyalty to the UF program, Bowens elected to flip his allegiance to the reigning two-time national champions.

As a result, Florida loses its second-longest standing commit — behind only linebacker Myles Graham — and sit at just seven commits at this stage of the 2024 cycle. Bowens leaves behind fellow running back Kahnen Daniels as the lone ball carrier scheduled to head to Gainesville in the future.

The move with force the Gators to grow increasingly active in the running back department after seemingly having the position wrapped up prior.

Bowens is no longer scheduled to attend the University of Florida for his official visit June 16-18, eliminating running backs coach Jabbar Juluke’s opportunity to re-deliver the pitch that originally resulted in the Benjamin School (North Palm Beach, Fla.) products pledge in September.

The battle to secure Bowens to don orange and blue threads in the future becomes even more uphill now, as Florida will have to combat the SEC East rival.
