Tite has been switching the armband around but now it will go to Ney

"I think this responsibility will be good for me," said Neymar, speaking as Brazil's new captain. Tite had been changing around the armband until now but he has given it to Neymar. Tite said Ney "today is prepared to take this step forward".

"I announce the end of the rotation policy for the captain's armband. Neymar has gained a lot of maturity in these years and I know he is ready to carry out this new role."

Neymar said: "I've accepted the captaincy now because I've learned a lot in the last few years and with these latest experiences. I've matured a lot in this time and I know I can play the role of a captain. I apologise to all fans who ended up angry after the World Cup. To lose is horrible. We had to have done better."

Brazil were knocked out of the tournament in Russia by Belgium in Kazan at the quarter-final stage.

Neymar, Miranda, Dani Alves, Neymar, Marcelo, Fernandinho, Gabriel Jesús, Filipe Luis, Renato Augusto, Thiago Silva, Coutinho, Marquinhos, Willian, Paulinho and Casemiro had all worn the armband in the Tite era.

Brazil now play two friendlies, against the USA and El Salvador.
