Church Website

Built in 1901, this church replaced an 1831 chapel of ease which had served a new mining community. The building was closed in 2004 due to subsidence problems. The windowswere boarded up and the future of this Grade II listed building was uncertain. The church burned completely on 4 November 2006. Arson was suspected in the fire that caused the collapse of the roof and loss of all contents. The pews and organ were to have been removed the following week, with the organ going to a new home in the Netherlands.

The parish is now combined into St Michael and St Nicholas, Hetton-Lyons with Eppleton. St Nicholas building is being converted into flats.
