Drivers are still going the wrong way up a narrow hill near Royal Wootton Bassett.

Clack Hill in Bradenstoke used to be accessible in both directions, but concerns about traffic and HGVs led to extra restrictions on the route.

The measures came after a major landslip at the B4069 at Lyneham Banks. Wiltshire Council is currently developing plans to have this road rebuilt by the end of 2025 at a cost of £5.9 million.

A weight limit came into force on Clack Hill in March 2022, and then it became one-way in October, with the only access being down the hill from Bradenstoke.

In January and February, the police issued reminders of the new rules on social media warning that anyone ignoring it could be putting themselves and other drivers in danger.

But it seems that people are still not getting the message.

On Thursday, a Royal Wootton Bassett and Cricklade Police spokesman said: "PC Marsh has been conducting regular patrols in the area of Lyneham and Bradenstoke.

"We are aware many drivers think Clack Hill is open to two ways of traffic. However, this is not the case.

"Clack Hill is one-way and drivers contravening this will be reported by three points [on their driving licence] and £100 fine."
