iLoveMakonnen Came Out as Gay

"I can't tell u about everybody else's closet, I can only tell u about mine."

iLoveMakonnen took to Twitter in the early morning to do a couple things. First, he wanted to cement his status as a fashion icon by letting us know that he's exactly that. Second, he wanted to let everyone know that he's gay.

The singer came out on Twitter, and he did it in a pretty amazing way. His announcement was pretty nonchalant, just acknowledging something publicly that's seemingly been an open secret for a long time. He called his sexual identity "old news," but it's the first time he's publicly acknowledged that he's gay.

"As a fashion icon, I can't tell u about everybody else's closet, I can only tell u about mine, and it's time I've come out," iLoveMakonnen said on Twitter. "And since y'all love breaking news, here's some old news to break, I'm gay. And now I've told u about my life, maybe u can go life (sic) yours."

iLoveMakonnen's fans have been super supportive on Twitter, congratulating him and telling him they're proud of him for coming out. Others just couldn't stop themselves from making THAT joke (it's pretty funny tbh).

"Bro... @iLoveMakonnen5D fam should have came out on a Tuesday," one Tweet said.

In all seriousness, though, we're so happy for iLoveMakonnen. Even though he seems to have been open about his sexuality in the past, talking about it publicly can be a big step.

His announcement came just after another performer's coming out tweet. Artist Taylor Bennett, and brother of Chance the Rapper's brother, just used Twitter to let his fans know he's bisexual. Taylor said he came out so other people going through his "same struggle" might feel a little more comfortable with themselves. While no one ever owes anyone an explanation of their sexual identity, Taylor Bennett and iLoveMakonnen coming out are great examples that we should all be proud of our identities.

On Instagram, iLoveMakonnen wrapped up his coming out tweets in a single post.

He captioned it "thank you for letting me be myself."

You do you, Makonnen!
