There are two tribes in Reigate, those who have never heard of Balham, let alone been there, and those who used to live in the south London suburb and have now set up a four-bedroom, two-kids, one-dog home in RH2. The almost old-fashioned drowsy dormitory town of two decades ago now rings to the sound of diners’ contactless cards: there’s a Côte, a Café Rouge, a stack of burger bars and a week’s worth of curry and Thai choices.
