What's New For the 2019 Toyota Sienna?

Arriving close to the end of the minivan nameplate third production cycle, the 2019 Toyota Sienna gets the addition of an all-wheel-drive system option, which is still exceedingly rare in this class, on the SE to join three other trims. In addition, Amazon Alexa connectivity and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration are now standard on all trims.

Which Trims are Available on the 2019 Sienna?

The 2019 Toyota Sienna is split into five trims: L, LE, SE, XLE, and Limited. Inside its cabin are three rows of seats. On the L and Limited, the second row comprises a pair of removable captain's seats for an overall maximum occupancy of seven; the other trims have a second-row bench-style seat to bump it to eight. On the seven-seater LE and XLE, you have the option of getting the Auto Access Seat, which is a unique lift-up seat that rotates 90 degrees then extends from the minivan and lowers to a convenient transfer height to make entry and exit much easier.

In addition to the aforementioned Amazon Alexa and Apple CarPlay, standard comfort and convenience features on the 2019 Sienna includes tri-zone automatic climate control, remote keyless access, a 4.2-inch color TFT multi-information display, Bluetooth wireless connectivity, six-speaker audio, AM/FM radio, an audio jack and USB port for hooking up mobile devices, five USB charging-only ports, the Scout GPS Link app for navigation, Siri Eyes Free, and the Entune 3.0 multimedia system with a 7-inch touchscreen.

At the LE trim level, Toyota introduces an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a garage-door opener, a Wi-Fi hotspot, HD Radio technology, a single-disc CD player, and a three-month SiriusXM satellite radio subscription. At the XLE trim level, remote keyless entry is boosted by a smart key access system with push-button engine ignition. Unique to the Limited are features such as a driver PA system (Driver Easy Speak) and the Dynamic Navigation and App Suite, which replaces Scout GPS Link and is accompanied by a six-month trial of Destination Assist Connect.

Great Performance and Gas Mileage

Under the hood of the 2019 Toyota Sienna is a 3.5-liter V6, which provides 296 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque and is hitched to an 8-speed automatic transmission. With the standard front-wheel drivetrain, the Sienna peaks at 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. Although all-wheel drive-which is optional on all trims but the base-level L-reduces those numbers to 18/24 mpg, this drivetrain choice will boost the minivan's all-weather driving performance.

2019 Sienna Safety Features

Standard on all 2019 Toyota Sienna trims are seven airbags, a rearview camera, hill start assist control, daytime running lamps (DRLs), Star Safety System (which includes electronic vehicle stability and traction control, anti-lock braking, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, and smart stop technology), Toyota Safety Sense P (which includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, dynamic radar cruise control, and automatic high beams), and a theft-deterrent system. Upgrade to at least the LE to also get a three-year subscription to Safety Connect for emergency assistance. On the SE and higher, Toyota replaces the halogen bulbs with longer-lasting and brighter LEDs on the DRLs. The XLE and Limited get a blind-spot monitor system with rear cross-traffic alert, and an alarm is added on their theft-deterrent systems. Exclusive to the Limited is a front and rear parking assist sonar system.
