30 years ago on this day a tornado tracked a 15 mile path of destruction across parts of southern Illinois and Indiana

Reports from January 7, 1989 say an F2 tornado quickly intensified to F4 strength in Wabash County, IL then moved into the town Allendale along Route 1.

Dozens of people were hurt, vehicles were destroyed and several blocks of homes were leveled and completely swept off their foundations. The tornado also dealt considerable damage to Allendale’s school.
