Bagnaria Arsa

The toponym probably derives from the characteristic of this area, which once was damp and marshy and has recently been reclaimed.

Bagnaria Arsa is mentioned for the first time in a document of 1121, as a property of the Chapter of the Church of Aquileia.
Unfortunately, there are no considerable news concerning the Middle Ages, except for some events linked to the Patriarchate, until the 14th century, when the villages of Sevegliano and Privano were enfeoffed to the Strassoldo family.

After 1420 the territory passed under the rule of the Republic of Venice.
From 1797 to 1866 Bagnaria was under the French and Austrian rule.
In 1848 the town, after the fire caused by the Austrian troops that besieged the fortress, was renamed Bagnaria Arsa.
