Bicinicco

Under an historical point of view, the village of Griis is the most important of the local authority of Bicinicco.

It seems that its name comes from the German word "griez" (fine gravel).

Ancient documents testify that in 1166 the Tuscan Marquis Alrico di Attems gave his feudal estates to the Patriarch Vodalrico II; such properties also included the villages of S. Stefano, Tissano, Persereano, Magred and Grisinan (maybe the actual Griis).

From Bicinicco you can start a journey to discovery of ancient and modern frescoes of Friuli. You can admiring many of them in nearby churches, as St. Anthony's Church in Griis.

In the XV century Griis came under the domain of the "Signori" of Castello and of Tarcento.
