Doja Cat was always bound to take center stage on the Grammys 2022 red carpet, and she didn’t disappoint. The star, who is nominated for eight awards tonight, wore a striking mint-hued custom Versace dress—complete with a silky bodice and plenty of embellishment—complemented by a platinum blonde hair transformation and frosty makeup.

Makeup artist Ernesto Casillas tells Vogue that the eye makeup took inspiration from “the whimsical color of the mint dress, and the sparkle”—a take on late ’90s and early aughts aesthetics. “We’re really going for it—like that era where Kevyn Aucoin was doing Jennifer Lopez. She had glowy skin, frosted brow bones. We’re really taking it there,” Casillas says. To achieve the look, he reached for iridescent shades in Pat McGrath’s Mothership VII Divine Rose eyeshadow palette before adding a touch of eyeliner and false lashes by Kiss in the style Prêt-À-Porter. Brows were etched thin in typical Y2K fashion with Benefit Cosmetics brow pencil and setter.

“I believe the key to beautiful makeup is a beautiful complexion,” Casillas adds. The rapper’s skin was prepped with niacinamide and hyaluronic acid serums by The Ordinary, followed by the Solawave red light therapy device to boost radiance. “The microcurrents and warmth from the wand deepen the absorption of the products and the vibrating facial massage increases circulation and reduces puffiness,” Casillas notes. A cocktail of foundations, concealers, and setting powders by Pat McGrath—along with pink blush and highlighter—then delivered the ultimate rosy glow. Casillas finished the look with McGrath’s sheer pink Lust Gloss in Love Potion.

This frosty moment was furthered with Doja Cat’s hair, perfected by her go-to hairstylist Jared Henderson, otherwise known as J Stay Ready. “I sectioned off the hair front temple to temple and used Joico’s JoiGel Firm Styling Gel for the twists and Bantu knots at the top of the hair," Henderson explained on Instagram. “The rest of the hair was pulled into a half-up ponytail using Joico’s JoiMist Firm Finishing Spray"—as well as the Fast-Dry Finishing Spray to combat frizz. And to complete the pastel princess approach, Saccia Livingston complemented Doja’s diamond jewelry with glossy pink nails.
