Place House stands opposite the church and is a striking example of Tudor architecture. There are the remains of a moat from the earlier days when it was the grange of a Charterhouse. This dated back to 1539 when Sir Oliver Leader acquired the Rectory Manor. Sir Leader caused some upset in the village as riots broke out over land issues when he claimed it as his own. He died whilst he was living in the Charterhouse in 1557.

In the middle of the 17th century a fire destroyed most of the house leaving only the south wing. Subsequently it was rebuilt and restored. The two tudor barns which survive date back to Sir Oliver Leader's time.

The house is made of red brick and is now lovingly cared for with excellent grounds.
