Canal breach causes flooding and evacuations in Town of Lingle

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - A significant portion of the Town of Lingle is being evacuated due to flooding, according to the Torrington Police Department’s Facebook page. Areas south of the Lucerne Ditch are at risk.

If you are in the red area of the map below, officials say you should evacuate immediately.

Emergency crews are working on a breach in the Interstate Canal that has caused significant flooding west of Lingle. Highway 26 is closed west of Lingle. State Highway 157 is the alternative route for travel in that area.

Law Enforcement, Fire, and Emergency crews are working to control traffic and assist community members with flooding. Response to non-emergency calls in the area may be delayed.

The Torrington Police Department posted this video. It is a bird’s eye view for those wanting to gain some perspective as to what the folks in the Lingle area are dealing with this morning.

Officials say this is a very serious situation and is very stressful for those in the path of the water

Sandbags are available on the north side of North Hills Baptist Church for those in need.

Shelter is available at North Hills Baptist Church.
