FOREWORD<br />

The growth and promotion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> SME sector - <strong>the</strong> backbone <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Philippine economy - tops <strong>the</strong> President’s 10-point agenda<br />

<strong>for</strong> economic development. In line with this, <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Trade and Industry (DTI) was tasked to map out a three-year<br />

program, <strong>the</strong> National SME Agenda, that will pool toge<strong>the</strong>r key players in SME development into an integrated and<br />

comprehensive support system <strong>for</strong> SMEs. The system encompasses <strong>the</strong> whole enterprise development cycle and is composed<br />

<strong>of</strong> five linked elements: financing, HRD and training, marketing, product development, and advocacy. In order to sustain <strong>the</strong> gain<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> National SME Agenda, <strong>the</strong> SME Development Plan <strong>for</strong> 2004 – 2010 was crafted.<br />

The Plan aims to develop a vibrant SME sector that will provide a strong domestic supply base <strong>for</strong> globally competitive<br />

industries. In line with SME In<strong>for</strong>mation Support as contained in <strong>the</strong> Plan, <strong>the</strong> Bureau <strong>of</strong> Small and Medium Enterprise<br />

Development (BSMED) has been publishing and disseminating in<strong>for</strong>mation materials <strong>for</strong> SMEs to promote <strong>the</strong>ir growth and<br />

development.<br />

This directory provides vital in<strong>for</strong>mation on existing common service facilities nationwide which SMEs may tap to help increase<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir output and boost <strong>the</strong>ir competitiveness. The scope <strong>of</strong> services covered includes:<br />
