Pedregal House in Mérida, Mexico by R79

To celebrate her birthday, a great friend decided to give herself this abode in which open areas, spatial continuity and a close relationship with the outside predominate.

On the outside, a succession of blind volumes is faithful to our position of “not showing” and allowing the understanding and enjoyment of the space only to those who have confidence to enter the house.

The location of the access is due to the pre-existing vegetation, flanked by it, you reach a covered hallway that precedes the hall and has some outdoor chairs that remind us of the ancient custom of the inhabitants of the city center of ¨salir to talk and watch the night fall¨.On the opposite side, through the garage there is a more daily access, in this, the circulation that leads to the kitchen opens to a flooded patio, becoming a focal point and visual auction of several areas, making the routes more enjoyable and injecting light inside the house.

The house is conceived as a large multifaceted social area. Made up of interwoven areas, they can function independently or as parts that complete a whole.

The program is very simple, a double height space is conceived as the center of the project, this social room flows to both ends, on one side, the flooded patio and on the other, the pool and garden. It serves as a lobby, computer and articulator for those who coexist around it.

The staircase has a leading role in this composition, and acquires a sculptural character due to its constructive complexity. The detail in this “carpet” that unfolds from above and floats on voids and crystals, consists of “undressing” the structure, leaving its guts apparent, explaining how it supports and contrasting materials that reflect subtlety and visual noise.

This circulation has its horizontal counterweight by a light line: the bridge that crosses the social area, communicating to the rooms that are located at both ends of it.

Wood elements of constant rhythm, are repeated in different areas to separate the spaces or conduct the visual, sometimes as a lattice and at other times in pergola.

The materiality of the stone presents different formats and textures, with its cream hue contrasts perfectly with white, steel and wood, giving a contemporary touch, but at the same time warm to the work. A couture piece, a good gift that reflects the personality of its owner.
