Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu has ordered tannery owners to move their establishments within 72 hours from Hazaribagh to the Leather Industrial City at Savar on the outskirts of Dhaka. Dhaka's Hazaribagh area, widely known for its tannery industry, has been listed as one of the top 10 polluted places on earth with 270 registered tanneries in Bangladesh, and around 90-95 percent are located at Hazaribagh employing 8,000 to 12,000 people.
